Diverting Food Waste for Fast Fashion
A series of entirely biodegradable adhesive bras & pasties made from an original biochar & bioplastic composite. Each pastie takes food waste that would otherwise go to a landfill and turns it into a carbon-sequestering material to replace single-use silicone pasties & traditional textile bras.

We, Doppelgänger, are the producers of the Wastie Pastie line and are champions of regenerative design & the “bra-less” movement. With circular Wastie Pastie, we don’t have to be. Our fun & playful pasties biodegrade by all 6 world standards, sequester carbon, repurpose food waste and actually fertilize soils as they deteriorate. How is this possible, you might ask? With the help of an ancient material called biochar (perfect for biobabes with bioboobs). The process is simple: we collect food waste, we heat it in an oxygen-free environment (this phase is called pyrolysis) and then bind the resultant black char with biopolymers. This exciting material draws carbon from the atmosphere & provides a carbon sink in soils. What’s more: it diverts food waste from the landfill, where it would otherwise produce toxic amounts of methane!
With pasties & stick-on bras, you get the coverage of a traditional bra, while feeling the freedom of “bra-less-ness.” Wear a pastie and promote positive impact fueled by conscientious disposability. When you’re done wearing our chic statement pasties (after the concert, the picnic, the ABBA disco, the walk through the park, the ski down the slopes) you can return them to the Earth where they belong.
What’s Next for Wastie Pastie?
The fashion line was developed for the 2022WM Design Challenge. Moving forward, we are open to working with industry partners to continue testing the design with users in a variety of applications.
